Westfields travelled to Shortwood United on Tuesday night and recorded a 3-2 away victory in the Wiseman Floodlit Cup.
Westfields had earlier beaten Oxfordshire side Long Crendon in the First Round and progressed into the Third Round through a hard-working performance.
Westfields took a 27th minute lead through young Harry Pitman who fired home from 12yds after a good run by Dan Stoneman had provided the opportunity for the youngster to put Westfields ahead.
However, the home side drew level within 2 minutes when from a corner kick Westfields failed to clear and Orgest Pepa blasted the ball home from close range.
The sides went in level at the break but after the interval Westfields came out and scored 2 quick goals when Ben Vine headed home within 2 minutes of the re-start and then 5 minutes later Josh Hunt scored a picture-book header at the far post from a Lewis Binns cross.
This put Westfields into a commanding 3-1 lead but the home side kept up the pressure and Luke Soule fired home from close range after Westfields’ keeper Matt Apperley had fumbled an earlier shot. This then set up a tense 10 minutes final end to the game when Westfields defended superbly, particularly with Ben Vine and Joel Edwards (who was making a return from injury after a long period out of the game) outstanding at the heart of the defence.
Westfields now go through to the Third Round of the Wiseman Hellenic League Floodlit Cup.
On Saturday Westfields make the long journey into Wiltshire to play Corsham Town, kick-off 3pm at Corsham.
