Residents in Shropshire have reported that they have been called by someone claiming to be a member of Shropshire Council's Tax team.
They have been told that an error had occurred when the Council updated the Data Protection information in their system and as such they have been overcharged by the Council by approximately £70.
The caller then went on to confirm the name, address and postcode of the resident and to ask for their date of birth and bank details.
Shropshire Council has confirmed these calls from not from them.
