After months of negotiations the Orleton Community has now agreed a price for the purchase of The Boot Inn in Orleton.

Negotiations have concluded with the liquidator to agree a realistic price enabling the community to take ownership of this much loved village pub which has been closed for over a year.

The news comes hot on the heels of the successful community purchase of another Herefordshire pub, The Bell at Yarpole.

With the full support of CAMRA and the Plunkett Foundation (a charity which supports community buy-outs and enterprises) the purchase of The Boot replicates the successful business model used to purchase many of the other community pubs around the country, the number of which has increased from just 5 in 2010 to more than 130 to date.  Interestingly, none has failed.

There are ambitious plans for The Boot to be “more than just a pub”.

An internet cafe with free WiFi zone, a focus for cultural activities and a successful restaurant utilising locally produced, fresh ingredients are just some of the plans for the new Boot Inn.

John Alderman, Chair of Orleton’s Community Benefit Society said, “Our vision to put The Boot back at the heart of our community is just a few steps away thanks to our many supporters. We have received a significant number of generous pledges from individuals and local businesses to provide financial investment.

“Following successful completion of the sale process we will commence repairs and refurbishment of the building and be selecting an experienced and proactive tenanted licensee to run the business.”

A public meeting will be held at the Orleton Village Hall on 6th November at 7.30pm to provide further information for interested parties and answer any questions.
