Two Old Monmothians represent Glamorgan Seconds on home soil

Two Old Monmothians have represented Glamorgan County Cricket Club in a one-day Second XI fixture at Monmouth School for Boys.

Batsman Harry Friend, who lives in Ross-on-Wye, scored 28 runs and Monmouth-based leg-spinner Sam Swingwood snapped up a wicket in Glamorgan’s 50-over friendly win against the South Asian Cricket Academy.

The ex-Monmouth School for Boys’ students are both former junior and senior players at Monmouth Cricket Club.

The match was part of an exciting ongoing partnership between Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools and Glamorgan.

In 2019, Monmouth School for Boys hosted its first Glamorgan Seconds matches since 1996 with fixtures involving Worcestershire Seconds and Essex Seconds.

Monmouth School for Boys holds a very special place in Glamorgan's history.

Since the club's formation in 1888, the school has produced more cricketers for the Welsh county than any other educational institution.

In all, 11 Glamorgan cricketers have attended the school - Trevor Arnott, Steve James, Keith Jarrett, Bill Marsh, Tom Morgan, Alfred Mullins, Kim Norkett, Andrew Jones, Huw Waters, Kyle Tudge and Jeremy Lawlor.
