Traveller sites consultation launched in Herefordshire

Herefordshire Council has launched a consultation about plans for residential pitches for travellers in the county.

Following public feedback from last year’s travellers’ sites consultation, and after hearing advice from the Planning Inspectorate, the council has identified two additional sites that could help to meet the shortfall of traveller pitches up to 2022/23.

These potential sites inclued Oakfield, Nash End Lane, Bosbury for up to four pitches and land at Stoney Street in Madley for up to ten pitches.

The council is seeking public feedback about the suitability of these two sites.

Feedback from the six week consultation will contribute towards the Travellers’ Sites development plan, part of the council’s local plan which outlines the strategic planning framework for the county’s future development needs up to 2031.

Councillor Philip Price, Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, said: “This is a chance for the public and other interested parties to have their say on this vital component of the Herefordshire Local Plan, which will guide decisions on applications for new Gypsy and Traveller pitches Herefordshire Council has a priority to enable residents to live safe, healthy and independent lives. Ensuring the provision of good quality accommodation for Gypsies and Travellers will help to address the inequalities this community can face when accessing services such as housing, education and social care.”

The consultation will run until midnight on December 5, 2018.
