Tractor parking bays proposed for Hereford City Centre

Shoppers in Hereford could soon see tractors parked alongside cars in the city centre under a new proposal aimed at supporting local farmers.

City officials say they are exploring the introduction of designated tractor parking bays near High Town to make it easier for farmers visiting the city to stop for supplies, banking, or lunch.

The larger bays would be specially marked to accommodate farm vehicles, which are often too wide for standard parking spaces.

Under the idea:

• Several extra-wide parking bays would be created
• Signs would mark them as “Tractor Only”
• The spaces would be located close to shops and cafés in the centre

A spokesperson for the council said the proposal recognises Hereford’s strong agricultural connections.

“Herefordshire is a farming county. Many farmers travel into the city during the day, and this would give them somewhere convenient to park.”

Some residents have already joked that the spaces could become the slowest parking zone in Britain.
