The Hop Pole is undergoing extensive refurbishment.

The new owners attempting to revive a dilapidated hotel in the heart of Herefordshire town are seeking a licence to serve drinks at its reinstated bar till 1am.

Achieving Together Ltd is seeking approval from Herefordshire Council for The Hop Pole in Bromyard to serve alcohol till midnight Mondays to Thursdays, and till 1am Fridays to Sundays, and also to have recorded music between noon to 10pm each day and live music on Saturdays between 7and 11pm.

Currently under scaffolding, the historic inn has been closed since 2019 and no longer has a valid premises licence.

The Leicestershire-based firm also has an application with the council for listed building consent to reconfigure the interior of the grade II listed building, which will remain as a hotel, contrary to a previous planning bid to turn it into flats, with a reconfigured bar and restaurant on the ground floor.

James McCabe, one of the partners in the restoration work, said they aim to reopen The Hop Pole by next summer, despite facing major structural challenges and an estimated £800,000 repair bill.

The public can give their views to the council on the licensing proposal until November 24.
