A teenager from Mathern has received a two-year sentence for robbery.
Tyler Hooper, 18, of Bishops Mead, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday 20 April after pleading guilty to one count of robbery.
The offence was committed on Sunday 20 February last year, after the victim left the Spar on Bulwark Road, Chepstow and encountered Hooper and another person, who remains unidentified.
DC Georgia Dunne, the officer in the case, said:
“Tyler Hooper confronted his victim before punching him multiple times and then robbing him.
“This was a very distressing incident for his victim, who required hospital treatment and was also filmed by an unknown person during the robbery.
“Our investigation revealed he was linked to this offence by his own DNA but refused to admit his involvement during police interviews, prolonging this ordeal for his victim and slowing down the entire justice process.
“The defendant belatedly admitted his guilt at crown court, and I hope that he will use the time afforded to him by this sentence to reflect on his behaviour.”
Hooper will spend two years in a young offenders institution and will pay a victim surcharge of £149.
