Sue has her eyes on the prize in Bridgnorth

Bridgnorth resident and police community support officer, Sue Eden, has cause for celebration after being chosen as a regional finalist in Specsavers' annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

The 62-year-old entered the national competition after being encouraged by her friend who works at the Bridgnorth Specsavers. She has been chosen out of hundreds of other entries in the area as a regional finalist for the over 60s age category and is now in with a chance of winning £10,000.

To mark her achievement, Sue was invited to her local Specsavers store in High Street, Bridgnorth, to receive a bottle of champagne, a £150 eyewear voucher and a certificate.

Sue says: 'I've worn glasses for 20 years. I have varifocals as I have to wear them all the time. I entered the competition during the Bridgnorth Carnival after being talked into it by a friend. I've always seen glasses as a necessary thing, but that doesn't mean you can't put your own style on them. I find Specsavers always has a great range and I'm really happy in my style.'

Store director Teresa Hughes says: 'Sue knows that without her glasses, she couldn't effectively do her job as a PCSO.She has her own distinct style, and isn't really influenced by celebrity fashions, but she always chooses spectacles that suit her personality.'

The awards were launched by former Girls Aloud singer, Nadine Coyle, earlier this year to celebrate specs wearers nationwide. If Sue wins in her age category, she could meet Nadine and a host of other celebs at the star-studded awards ceremony at London's 8 Northumberland Avenue on 10 October.

The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s. Each age category winner will be treated to a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate prize.
