The Safer Roads Partnership is strengthening its speed enforcement activity on the A4110 route from Hereford to Leintwardine with additional enforcement sites being launched along the A4110 enforcing a combination of speed limits.
The adoption of the enforcement route is in direct response to the number of collisions along the A4110.
From 01 January 2014 to end of December 2016 there have been 39 injury collisions along A4110 in Herefordshire.
The Partnership has been working with Herefordshire Council, local parish councils, the safer neighbourhood team and local residents to help improve safety along the route.
The casualty reduction enforcement programme will commence this month.
Sergeant Stuart Allen from West Mercia Police said: “Enforcement along the A4110 will encourage speed compliance along the entirety of the route. We hope that enforcement at key locations will encourage drivers to change their behaviour and drive at a lower, safer speed. This will help to improve the quality of life for people living in the areas, reduce the risk of harm, and improve the safety of the roads for all those who use them.”
Cllr Barry Durkin, Herefordshire Council Cabinet member for transport and regulatory services, said: “As part of Herefordshire Council’s ongoing commitment to reduce road traffic collisions and casualties across Herefordshire, this trial project has been developed in partnership with theWest Mercia Police Safer Roads Partnership. The partnership helps to save lives by encouraging safe driving and reducing the number of collisions and casualties on our highways network, and the strengthening of speed enforcement on the A4110 from Hereford to Leintwardine is a vital part of this. We would encourage motorists to take as much care as possible at all times to promote road safety.”
The council will be monitoring the various sites to assess the impact upon traffic speed and driver behaviour.
