Police rule out plans for speed camera

Police officers have ruled out the possibility of installing a fixed speed camera on a road in Ross-on-Wye.

West Mercia Police sent a team to monitor speed levels on the Walford Road after receiving several complaints from residents.

However, the average speeds they recorded were below the 30mph speed limit.

There have been eight speeding tickets issued recently but none of them were on Walford Road. They were issued on Gloucester Road and the A40.

PC Shirley Peters said: “We’ve carried out now speed checks on three different areas of the Walford Road. This was by the Prince of Wales, Tudorville and near Chasedale.

“Our average speeds on each occasion were 26, 27 and 29 miles per hour.

“We did have a couple who were going over who have received letter.

“One of them actually lived on Walford Road.”

PC Peters said the road safety team may monitor the speed by putting cables down but there was no chance of a fixed speed camera on that road.

“They only go to places where there are high numbers of speed related road traffic collisions.

“We’ve done further checks along the Walford Road since I did the speed checks, and the average was 26mph,” she said.

“We’ve not had relatively high speeds.”
