Police are continuing to investigate following an incident in Bromyard in the early hours of this morning.

A police officer suffered a knife wound to the hand and a police dog also received an injury to its ear while responding to reports of a man damaging shops on the High Street.

The police officer was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged.

The dog was also treated by a vet and they are both now at home recovering.

A 30 year old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting a police officer and remains in custody.

Superintendent Sue Thomas said: "We want to make it clear that this was an isolated incident in which a police officer and a police dog were both injured while carrying out their duties.

"They've both received treatment and thankfully are in recovery.

"Police remain at the scene and we will be increasing patrols in the area to reassure the public."
