Plans for six new business units in Kington

Six new business units could be built on the edge of a Herefordshire town.

Local firm Langsun has applied for full planning permission to turn a hectare of farmland by the A4111 immediately south of Kington into commercial units covering 950 square metres in total.

The spot is next to the town’s waste recycling centre and opposite its medical centre. Three of the units would be further up the sloping site, and three lower down. The plans also include parking spaces for cars, lorries and cycles.

Pre-application advice from the council’s development manager Andrew Banks said the site “is obviously outside of the immediate built environs of Kington, but is in a location where other development has occurred in recent years” and already has “some pedestrian connectivity”.

But he pointed out that giving the gradient of the land, the site “has the potential to be quite prominent in visual terms”, and that this “should be reflected in the detailed design of any scheme”.

Kington’s proposed neighbourhood development plan, intended to set out where different sorts of development should take place around the town, was narrowly defeated in a referendum in 2019 and has not been replaced since, meaning it “is afforded no weight in terms of decision making”, Mr Banks pointed out.

Comments on the application, numbered 231167, can be made until July 14.
