Plans for homes in beauty spot rejected

County planners have rejected a scheme for nine homes in a south Herefordshire beauty spot.

Herefordshire Council’s planning committee considered the plans to build the small estate in Glewstone, near Ross-on-Wye, yesterday.

The plans for land next to Herriot Cottage included seven four-bedroomed homes and two three-bedroomed properties – they would be a mix of bungalow and houses.

Local councillor Elissa Swinglehurst explained how the proposals, which fall within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, were not sustainable.

“Glewstone has no daily bus service, no village hall, no school, no church and no pub,” she said.

She also said one resident there had broadband speeds of just 0.2 Mbps.

Councillors rejected the scheme by seven votes against four.

They also questioned why Glewstone was included in the county plan as a community identified for sustainable growth when it had no services.
