Lorry driver seriously injured after crash on A40

Lorry driver has been seriously injured after a collision on the A40 in Herefordshire.

The southbound carriageway is closed from the A49 (Wilton roundabout, Wilton) to A4137 Hereford turn off (Whitchurch).

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a HGV lorry at around 5.30am today (Friday 19 January), which had overturned on the A40 in Goodrich, Herefordshire.

"The road is currently closed southbound from the Wilton roundabout to junction 1 of the A40. People are asked to seek alternative routes whilst emergency services make the area safe."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We found a man who was the driver of the HGV.".

“He was assessed and had sustained serious injuries that were not life threatening. He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to the County Hospital in Hereford for further treatment.”

Diversion Route

Diverted traffic is advised to follow the solid triangle diversion symbol if heading westbound. Please note this route is not suitable for vehicles over 15'6" due to a low bridge.

• At the A40/A4137 junction near Whitchurch, exit the A40 and join the A4137 northbound
• Continue on the A4317 northbound until the junction with the A49
• Join the A49 and continue northbound until the junction with the A466
• Join the A466 southbound and continue towards Monmouth
• Re-join the A40 at Monmouth

Road users are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs if heading eastbound. 

• At the junction of A40/A4137 take the exit to the A4137 northbound.
• Continue along A4137 to its junction with A49.
• Take the A49 south-eastwards to its junction with A40 (Wilton Roundabout).
