Ludlow's new Sainsbury's store will open this morning.
The store at Rocks Green is said to be the most energy-efficient supermarket of its size that Sainsbury’s has ever opened, using 30 per cent less energy than a similar-sized store would have three years ago
Around 150 jobs have been created for local people.
Commenting on the opening, local councillor Andy Boddington said: "There is a danger of reduced footfall in the town centre and for our independent traders. That could be devasting after the struggles that our small shops have faced during the pandemic. But I don’t want to be pessimistic. Our traders in the small shops and on the market have a lot of resilience. They have a good and distinctive offer. I hope they will continue to attract people into town."
The store will be officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Ludlow Vivienne Parry at 8:30am.
