A Herefordshire town is to get a new bar and café in a prominent spot.

A planning application has been put forward by Alwyn Weaver of Bromyard to convert the disused premises on the town’s High Street, next door to the Kings Arms pub, for “sale of food and drink for consumption (mostly) on the premises”.

The ground floor of the three-storey, grade II listed building, which dates from the early 17th century, was previously a florists, with a two-storey flat above.

Mr Weaver plans to include half of the first floor within the customer area of the new bar, while retaining a separate, smaller flat.

An accompanying listed building application is meanwhile intended “to regularise works which have been carried out without consent, together with those necessary to achieve the change of use”, his application says.

Mr Weaver said he aimed to have the bar open as soon as possible following the granting of permission.

Comments on the applications for planning permission (numbered 223885) and for listed building consent (224342) can be made until April 22.
