Monmouth School for Boys’ 1st VII reached the Vase semi-finals of the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Schools Rugby Sevens.
The boys recorded six wins, one draw and one defeat in eight matches over two days in glorious conditions in the National Sevens Vase Under-18 competition.
Monmouth swept through Group U after wins against RGS Worcester (22-0), Kirkham Grammar School (17-7), and Pangbourne College (38-0) before securing a 38-12 victory over Dean Close in an Elimination Round tie.
On the second day, Monmouth progressed to the knockout stages from Group A after defeating Abingdon School 40-0 and then hitting back to draw 19-19 with George Watson’s College from Edinburgh.
The boys reached the last four after storming to a comprehensive 36-14 victory against Royal Hospital School in their quarter-final.
Monmouth showed character and resilience in a 33-10 semi-final defeat to a very strong Stowe School side, which contained three England Under-18 players and went on to win the trophy after beating Oakham School, 33-5, in the final.
