Emergency services were called to Mill Street in Leominster early this morning after a bin lorry crashed into a building.

The incident happened shortly after 6.40am and has since been confirmed to have resulted in the death of a man in his 60s, who was a passenger in the vehicle.

Superintendent Helen Wain, speaking on behalf of the Herefordshire Tactical Co-ordination Group, said: “Three people were in the vehicle at the time of the collision and it has now been confirmed that sadly a man in his 60s, who was a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and a second passenger were treated by paramedics and taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.”

No one else was injured in the incident, and it has been confirmed that the building struck by the vehicle was empty.

A major multi-agency response is ongoing, with police, fire, ambulance, and local authority teams working together to make the site safe. A cordon remains in place, and roads around Mill Street are expected to stay closed for some time.

Superintendent Wain added: “On behalf of all agencies, our thoughts and condolences are with those involved and the families affected by this tragic incident.”

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and check the Herefordshire Council website for updates on road closures.
