Man arrested in Church Stretton suspicion of murder

A 34-year-old man has been arrested following a serious assault outside a Shrewsbury nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning.

As part of the police investigation into the incident a man was arrested in Church Stretton yesterday afternoon (Saturday 19 March) on suspicion of attempted murder.

He remains in custody.

The incident, which happened around 3.10am on Hills Lane, saw a 27-year-old man assaulted.

He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Officers would like to thank the local community for their patience whilst the nearby car park and Hill’s Lane were closed so that the emergency services could respond.

Detective Inspector Joanne Delahay, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was an isolated incident between two individuals and we don’t believe there is any risk to the wider public.

“To support our investigation Bridge Street Car Park and Hill’s Lane was closed this morning (Saturday 19 March) but they are now open again. We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have cause the local community.”
