South Shropshire’s MP Philip Dunne has expressed his thanks to all helping deliver this extraordinary effort in getting people vaccinated right across South Shropshire.

Mr Dunne, who had been forced to shield during the pandemic due to a longstanding medical condition, received his vaccination at Ludlow Hospital last Sunday as part of the clinically extremely vulnerable cohort.

He offered his sincere thanks to all those helping to roll out the vaccine programme in South Shropshire, as well as those who are going the extra mile to support health staff, including volunteers at Ludlow racecourse offering vaccinators teas and coffees.

Mr Dunne said: “Having had to shield during this awful pandemic, I share in the immense relief felt by all those who have received the vaccine against Covid in South Shropshire. I offer my sincere thanks to all those delivering the vaccine programme here, including NHS staff, Shropshire Council staff, RAF medics at Ludlow Racecourse, volunteers from Shropshire Fire & Rescue, and many members of the community including retired clinicians, and public spirited folk, braving the chill and wet weather to help get the most vulnerable in our community vaccinated.

I also want to thank the generosity of those supporting the vaccine programme. I know local businesses and individuals have been coming forward to offer snacks and hot drinks to health staff, which really does reflect the best of our community, not least during this current cold snap.

It is great news Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin is one of three areas in the Midlands that exceeded its vaccination target last week, with 40,000 doses administered in the past seven days.

Each jab in the arm is another person protected from covid, and another step on the path back to some sense of normality.”
