Sixteen new jobs have been created in Shropshire Council’s highways and transport department.
The authority is advertising for highways technicians, engineers, surveyors, managers and inspectors – and a dog warden – to join the team.
Councillor Steve Davenport, cabinet member for highways and transport, said the service has undergone a big restructure to ensure it can adapt and meet the changing demands it will see over the coming years.
He said this will range from introducing new technologies to supporting big developments in the county.
As a result, a number of existing and new positions are currently available, and the council is hoping to attract applicants from across the country to join the team.
He said: “This is an exciting time for our highways service, and an exciting opportunity for people to join what I really believe is one of the best highways teams in the country – in one of the best parts of the country.
“Our restructure means that we will provide an even better, more efficient and more effective service, and means that we have a number of opportunities for people who would like to join the team and help us with our important work.
“Our team manages 5,100km of roads, leads on new and exciting projects and supports the growth of the county.
“They’re dedicated to making sure the county’s roads are as safe as possible, working to get any defects fixed, watching the weather for snow, ice and flooding, and working with our communities in making sure the streets are clean and safe.
“This is a great time to join the team. And, as many of these vacant roles are currently outsourced, bringing them back in-house will save us money, as well as helping us to provide the best service possible.”
