The Government has given funding to support a major investigation and seek justice for victims.
Operation Lincoln is the specialist independent investigation into the care of mothers and babies at the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. After the PCC sought support from the Home Office, the Policing Minister Kit Malthouse MP has confirmed that £4 million in additional funding will be available to West Mercia Police towards the costs of the investigation, with the Commissioner also contributing more than £650,000.
PCC John Campion said: “I am grateful to the Policing Minister for recognising the significant impact of this major investigation on West Mercia. This is an incredibly important investigation that will provide justice for the victims and families affected.
“As Commissioner I am resolute in my commitment to seek justice and answers for victims. I want to also see that those affected receive the support they need as this investigation gets underway.
“I would also like to thank Daniel Kawczynski MP and the Shropshire MPs for their support in taking this vital case to the Home Office for the funds.”
