Hereford will have new electric “City Zipper” buses operating around key city spots by the end of September, it has been confirmed.
Led and part-funded by Hereford City Council, the £2.4 million project is one of 15 within the StrongerHereford programme, backed by £22.4 million of Government money.
The zero-emission, three-strong bus service will be operated by established local bus firm Yeomans Travel and will run between the Station Medical Centre, the railway station with its new transport hub, the county hospital, the county and city bus stations, St Owen Street, High Town, Broad Street, the leisure pool and the Old Market.
The project will also fund an electric bus charging point and depot to enable further electric bus services in future.
Confirming the start date for the services, StrongerHereford board chair Abigail Appleton said: “We know they will be green. The upholstery is being decided on.”
