Easter eggs donated to local carers

Staff at Shropshire Council have been busy buying and donating chocolate Easter eggs to ensure that children who have left care have an egg-cellent Easter.

Kirstie Hurst-Knight, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children and education, said: “As a council we do all we can to support our looked-after children as they grow and flourish into adulthood.

“However, many of these young people don’t have the support networks around them that many other children take for granted.

“Our leaving care team make sure our young people know they are cared about by marking special celebrations like Christmas and Easter.”

The eggs collected as part of the appeal will be given to young people who have been through the care system and are now living independently.

Kirstie continued: “An Easter egg may seem like such a trivial thing to donate, but it’s little things like a chocolate treat on Easter Sunday that really make a huge difference to some of the less fortunate children in our county.

“Thank you so much to everyone who donated an egg. It may well be the only one that our young people receive.”
