Disruption expected as Network Rail improves lines

Residents are being warned to expect some disruption around the level crossing in Craven Arms, as Network Rail upgrades rail track in the area.

Network Rail will be replacing three miles of line, which runs through Craven Arms station, with preparatory work now underway over nights.  This work will take place over a series of weekends through to September. The main track renewal work will then be carried out over four weekends in September and October. This will involve cutting and removing the existing rail tracks, before installing and welding the new rail tracks and other components.

To ensure the safety of staff, the crossing at Long Lane will be closed to through traffic from the junction with A49/Shrewsbury Road to the junction with Stokewood Road during the following dates:

• Monday 5th to Friday 9th July (to allow the work to install cabling ahead of track work)
• Monday 17th September to Monday 22nd November

During these times, a diversion using Clun Road and Watling Street will be put in place for smaller vehicles. Larger vehicles will be diverted to use A49, A4113, B4385 and B4368. Signage will be put in place to offer latest information.

The diversion along Watling Street will allow vehicles continued access to the household recycling centre at the industrial park on Stokewood Raod.

Mr Dunne, who met Network Rail executives last week to discuss the plans, said: “It is welcome Network Rail are investing in the rail line through Craven Arms, but naturally such a significant project does involve some disruption for local residents, from both access and noise. I was keen to ensure that access to the household recycling centre is being maintained while the level crossing at Long Lane is closed, and am pleased the diversion will allow that.
