Developers to improve flooding issue for new homes

Developers who want to build up to 100 homes next to the SAS camp in Credenhill, near Hereford say they are close to an agreement with the authorities over drainage issues.

James Spreckley, who wants permission to develop the land south of the A480, told Credenhill parish council of the progress.

He said dealing with the ongoing surface water problems was one of the main issues.

“Clearly we have had an extraordinary winter and that has brought this issue right to the fore,” he said.

“We are very close to reaching a technical solution that will work.

“Herefordshire council have been very helpful in that regard.

“We have another meeting with the MOD and Herefordshire Council separately next week where we hope to finally sign off on the scheme that will deal with surface water drainage.

“In particular, what I hope it will do is improve on the existing position where we have a lot of water that flows down the Burghill road onto the main road.

“Then down the side of the main road failing to get into the highway culvert and into the field.

“It has flowed on into Barlands cottages and caused pretty awful flooding.

“That has been an issue with the highway drain. It has nothing to do with our site but the development of our site I hope gives us the opportunity to improve on the existing position.”

The proposals, if approved, would include 35 affordable homes.

Residents say the proposals would increase traffic, and that there are not enough services in the village to cater for the new homes.

Herefordshire Council is expected to consider the proposals by April 7.
