The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has revealed that Herefordshire is providing some of the best care for adults in the West Midlands.
The latest CQC inspection report shows that Herefordshire has the highest proportion of ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ care homes and the second highest proportion of home care providers in the region.
Herefordshire has 29 nursing homes, providing specialist care for medical conditions such as dementia. The CQC has inspected all but one of these and rated 24 of them (86%) as being ‘Good’. This means we have the highest proportion in the West Midlands.
The county has 56 residential care homes and of the 55 inspected by the CQC, 51 are rated as ‘Good’ and 2 as ‘Outstanding’ (96%). This puts us joint highest in the West Midlands with Shropshire.
We also have 47 providers delivering home care services, which help people live independently in their own home. The CQC has inspected 35 of our providers and rated 33 as ‘Good’ and 1 as ‘Outstanding’ (97%). This means we have the second highest proportion in the West Midlands after Worcestershire.
Councillor Paul Rone, Cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “I’m pleased with the results of the latest CQC inspection report; it’s very encouraging that we’re maintaining the good performance achieved over recent quarters. It clearly demonstrates that our providers are continuing to deliver high quality care for residents across the county, whether in care homes or people’s own homes.
“The council’s adult social care teams work closely with our NHS partner organisations, care homes, home care providers and the CQC to ensure the care provided is of a high quality to meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable residents, enabling them to live safe, healthy and independent lives.”
