Civic leaders in Kington are considering a memorial to honour one of the town’s most loved residents.
David ‘Dick’ East, who was very well known locally, died peacefully at home in November at the age of 65.
Many local residents were saddened by his death and now councillors want ideas for a memorial.
Mayor Bob Widdowson asked tonight’s town council meeting that they should do something to remember Mr East.
“People were very shocked and saddened in the town by the sad loss of David ‘Dick’ East,” he said.
“He was a former member of this council. He was very well known and indeed well-loved in Kington.
“I’ve been asked by his sister for ideas for a memorial to remember him.
“Apparently, they’ve already got money that people have wanted to donate.
“There’s no doubt there is a strong feeling there should be something to remember Dick by.
“If people have got any thoughts or ideas, please get in touch with me or the family.”
Councillor Esther Rolls said his family were also planning a picnic the recreation ground in his memory after the Government’s Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
