Council tax increase proposed in Herefordshire

Herefordshire Council is proposing a tax increase of 4% for next year.

The rise would mean  band D property owners would be expected to pay an extra  £60.60 next year.

To balance the budget for 2020/21, the council is proposign a 4% increase to next year’s council tax

This is made from a 2% increase ring-fenced for adult social care and a further 2% to go towards the rest of the council’s services.

The council wants residents to share their views on the proposed budget which would support the cost of development and investment in the county’s communities, economy and environment.

A previous consultation to gauge public opinion on the new council’s ambition for Herefordshire took place in September and October 2019 and over 1500 people shared their views.

Building on feedback from the online survey and community events, the council’s Corporate Plan 2020-24 will be further developed, setting out the aims of policy and investment priorities for the council.

Over the next few weeks, representatives from the council will be asking people across Herefordshire to give their views on the budget proposals:

• 21 November 9am – midday – Bromyard Public Hall
• 22 November 10am – 2pm – Leominster Corn Square
• 23 November 10am – 3pm – Hereford High Town
• 26 November 10am – 2pm – Ledbury Market House
• 28 November 10am – 2pm – Ross-on-Wye Library
• 29 November 10am – 2pm – Kington Place de Marines

The closing date for the proposed budget consultation is 4 December 2019.
