Council Chairman announces his support for Parkinson's charity

A charity that supports Herefordshire residents with Parkinson's disease has been named as Herefordshire Council's Chairman's official charity.

The announcement means Parkinson's UK (Hereford and District) will receive the Chairman's fundraising support for the next 2 years.

Around 11,000 people in the West Midlands are currently living with Parkinson's. The Hereford and District branch of the charity offers those with the disease access to a wide range of local activities and support. The charity also provides financial assistance towards respite care.

Councillor Sebastian Bowen, Chairman of Herefordshire Council said: "There are so many deserving causes in the local community, but I wanted to show my support for a charity which focuses on supporting residents with Parkinson's disease."

"I hope that my support will raise the profile of Parkinson's UK, and as a result the charity gains additional financial help from other organisations."

Dr Chris Frith, Chairman of the Hereford and District branch of Parkinson's UK, was delighted to receive the news of the chairman's support.

Dr Frith said: "We are extremely grateful to Councillor Bowen for choosing Parkinson's UK as his official charity. "

"I look forward to working with the team at the council in my capacity as Chairman of the Hereford and District branch of Parkinson's UK, to raise awareness of the support that is available locally for residents living with the disease."

Parkinson's UK is a national charity which helps those with the disease, as well as funding research into finding an eventual cure.
