Citizens Advice Herefordshire are appealing for volunteers to meet rising demands for advice.

As we start the new year, millions are facing a cost of living crisis, Herefordshire people are increasingly seeking advice from Citizens Advice on how to manage. People are being hit by increased energy costs and rising inflation, while the £20 Universal Credit uplift has ended. The energy price cap increased by nearly £140 last October, with average annual bills expected to rise again by up to £700 in April. Demands for the service are high.

Citizens Advice Herefordshire are grateful for the grant received from the National Lottery and plan for this grant to increase their advice services across Herefordshire. Currently, they operate services from Hereford City, Ross on Wye, Bromyard and Kington and are working on starting in Leominster with future plans to include other outreaches in the county.

They urgently need volunteers to join their team and help deliver advice in all areas of Herefordshire with advice to include energy, housing, benefits and employment. There are also opportunities ‘behind the scenes’ in admin, research and campaigns and IT.

Volunteers are an integral part of the service without whom the service could not operate. No qualifications or past experience are needed as there is a comprehensive training package, and always someone on hand to help with guidance and support. Many volunteers stay with the service for more than 10 years due to the experience.

Sonya Gregory, Advice Services Manager at Citizens Advice Herefordshire said: “We’re urging people to do something great this year and volunteer with Citizens Advice Herefordshire.

As well as doing something positive for the local community, we know people who give their time get a lot back, be it enjoying the camaraderie of working in a team, learning new skills or campaigning on issues that are important to them.

We’ll give you all the training you need and would love to hear from you.”
