Cider Apple Alley refurbishment praised

The recently refurbished Cider Apple Alley in Hereford has been praised as a great example of community work.

The footpath between Ryelands Street and Pomona Place was closed for four weeks in August to remove the old chain link fence and handrail, widen and resurface the footpath and install lighting as part of the Safer Routes to School scheme.

Work commissioned from local artist Jim Reid, who worked on the design with pupils from Lord Scudamore Primary Academy, has been installed along the length of the alley.

Local ward councillor Anthony Powers said: “Cider Apple Alley, with its stunning new art works based on designs by local primary school children, ongoing re-planting and other improvements, is a great example of a local community project.

“It’s also been a successful joint project with Herefordshire Council, Hereford College of Arts, Lord Scudamore School and the Cider Museum.

“Always popular, the alley is now a much more welcoming, safe and attractive pedestrian route.

“Congratulations to everyone involved.”
