A South Shropshire pub has a picked up the award for value pub of the year.

Pubs are being urged to ditch things like cauliflower foam and edible sand, and return to serving ploughman's and bangers and mash.

The Good Pub Guide says too many boozers have gone 'MasterChef-mad' and are putting punters off with pretentious food.

The Old Castle in Bridgnorth in Shropshire has been named as the Best Value Pub for 2019.

Landlord Bryn Masterman said: “We pride ourselves on our range of hearty, homemade, food made from quality local ingredients,”

“Probably the bravest thing we did was to serve real horse steaks just after the horsemeat scandal. Our customers really enjoyed them.”

Bryn tells us what's on the menu.
