Another great year for Monmouthshire's A-Level students

A-level students across Monmouthshire are celebrating excellent results.

According to results published today from all examination boards, record numbers of students in all four secondary schools (Caldicot, Chepstow, Abergavenny's King Henry VIII and Monmouth) have achieved superb results with the county's pass rate at 98.8%.  An increasing number of students, 29%, achieved the highest grades of A*- A.

There has been a further rise in the number of students achieving the Level 3 threshold (of two A levels grades A-E) to 100% - this is the first time this has been achieved across the county.

In all Monmouthshire secondary schools staff are confident that the vast majority of students will gain entry to their preferred courses.

Councillor Richard John, cabinet member for Children and Young People commented: "These results are a real indicator of how hard students, teachers and all those who support learners in our schools have worked.  We must also recognise the support that our students receive from their parents and carers.  These outcomes provide the students with great opportunities as they start the next stage of their lives."

Will McLean, Chief Officer for Children and Young People added: "I am very pleased with the achievements across our four schools.  We have seen some exceptional individual results and once again Monmouthshire's results compare favourably with national outcomes and I know that our schools will be very pleased with this.  Our schools can be proud of the foundations they have given their students to look to the future, and achieve their ambitions."
