Abergavenny business praised in Parliament for responsible business practices

An Abergavenny-based bespoke joinery and construction company has been praised in Parliament for its responsible business practices.

Anthony A Davies Ltd made a shortlist of nine from across the UK hoping to be crowned National Responsible Business Champion 2019.

Monmouth MP David Davies nominated the company for the prestigious accolade from the All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group (APCRG) in recognition of its success in supporting apprentices, making a healthy workplace and reducing the firm’s environmental impact.

At a reception in the House of Commons on Tuesday 16 July, Anthony A Davies Ltd narrowly lost out on a top three award but was commended by Corporate Responsibility Minister Kelly Tolhurst.

Mr Davies said: “I was delighted to put forward Anthony A Davies Ltd as the 2019 Responsible Business Champion for the Monmouth constituency.

“The company is highly respected throughout south Wales and I have always been very impressed by the training opportunities they offer to young apprentices looking for a highly-skilled and well-paid job in the joinery or construction industry.

“I hope they will be encouraged to continue with the excellent work which has led to this well-deserved recognition.”

Managing director Anthony Davies said: “We were honoured to be nominated by David Davies for the national responsible business award.

“It was also an achievement to be shortlisted down to the last nine nationally, with a commendation from Kelly Tolhurst MP for the standard of the nomination. 

“Part of our ethos has always been to treat anyone involved in our business, which was established 39 years ago, with the utmost respect, with honesty and integrity and to give opportunities where possible.”

Standard Life Aberdeen plc scooped this year’s National Responsible Business Champion title.
