Work on a £17 million scheme to bring state-of-the-art healthcare and housing facilities are progressing really well, a meeting was told.

The Pauls Moss scheme in Whitchurch will see housing for the over-55s and a brand new medical centre built in the town.

A report went before Shropshire Council’s Health and Wellbeing board on Thursday, with Councillor Lee Chapman, committee chair, saying he was pleased with how the scheme appeared to be moving forward.

The final plans are due to go before the authority’s north planning committee this Spring.

Councillor Chapman said: “There is some very useful information in this report and I can confirm work is progressing really well at this stage.”

If it is given the go-ahead, work on the site will begin by August this year, with an opening date pencilled in for July 2021.

Becky Jones, responsible officer, said in the report to the committee: “The Pauls Moss Project in Whitchurch is an innovative health and care development that seeks to support the community of Whitchurch by enabling people to live independently for longer, support people with long term conditions, create an environment where there is a much greater focus on prevention.

“It will also provide a setting for the delivery of modern primary care services, enable enhanced primary care services to be delivered along with extended hours and integrated pharmacy services.

“The overall project represents an investment of around £17 million across the partner organisations.

“The scheme has been developed over the past two years with partners coming together to agree on a joined-up approach to new health care facilities, affordable supported housing with 24/7 care, pharmacy provision and other community facilities.”

She added: “The project includes specialist housing accommodation, modern health care facilities that are fully integrated with other community services along with a community hub and state-of-the-art assistive technologies and has been progressing well.”

The proposed development of the medical centre is being funded by both Shropshire Council and NHS England capital funding.
