A Hereford micro-distillery in a former public toilet block has put forward a bid to open up a “taproom” for visitors.
The Golden Wake Distillery in St Martin’s Avenue has applied for a licence to open to the public for sale of alcoholic drinks from 10am to 10pm seven days a week.
Starting in 2020 with an online-only presence, the distillery makes hard-crafted spirits, principally rum.
It applied in spring last year to relocate production to a disused toilet block by a central Hereford car park, which was eventually approved in January.
“It will be an opportunity for visitors to try our and other products,” owner Paul Kenyon said.
“Our five-strong range has been selling well and we have good local support, hence the reason for this.”
Once approved the attraction could open as soon as September, he added.
The bid coincides with news that the award-winning visitor centre at the much larger Chase Distillery in nearby Preston Wynne is set to close this weekend.
