Improvements to a Herefordshire town centre will be finished today (Friday December 13) ahead of a big seasonal event tomorrow, the county council has pledged.
There have been fears that overrunning improvements to Corn Square and other central areas of Leominster would impact on the town’s annual Victorian Street Market, as well as on a key sales day for the town’s shops.
Herefordshire Council leader Coun Jonathan Lester said: “Poor weather over the past few weeks has put the final elements of the improvement work a little behind schedule.
“However, I want to reassure residents and businesses that we are pulling out all the stops to ensure the work is completed in time for a busy Christmas shopping day tomorrow.”
The council says its contractors will work into the evening and overnight to lay the final road surface so the town is ready to welcome visitors this weekend.
The Victorian Street Market runs from am to 3pm tomorrow. There will be two free hours’ parking at the nearby Etnam Street car park until January 6.
