Cabinet has given the go-ahead for an old park and ride site at Sixways to be redeveloped.
Worcestershire County Council will give up its leasehold interest on a parcel of land, which includes the stadium’s main car park.
The land is owned by Worcester Warriors, which submitted plans to develop Sixways earlier this year.
The wider plans need permission from Wychavon District Council, but county councillors said they were pleased to play their part in facilitating the scheme.
“I’m delighted to support Worcester Warriors in their ambitious plans towards building an institution that will hopefully enable it to compete successfully at the highest level,” said finance chief Rob Wharton.
Cllr Justin Bowen said giving up its leasehold is “our contribution towards the wonderful return of Warriors to the professional game”.
Cllr Dan Birch said: “We need to support Worcester Warriors and the release of this lease was key to them unlocking the site.”
