Harry Kane wins a trophy with Bayern, Anthony Gordon makes his Barcelona debut plus lots more in the Euro Debrief

Welcome to The Euro Debrief, a new Sky Sports column in which Adam Bate rounds up some of the key stories from the latest matches across the continent. This week:

Kane wins Supercup with thanks to Brown

Being in Dortmund for the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, the expectation was that Harry Kane would add to the 73 goals that he scored last season for Bayern Munich. Instead, the opener in their 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund was scored by Nathaniel Brown.

The summer signing from Eintracht Frankfurt is better known as a left-back but was preferred in the No 10 role to fellow new arrival Ismael Saibari and responded by whipping the ball low into the corner inside the first half. He could have had more too.

Brown, 23, fired just wide of the far post after getting away down the left channel in the 43rd minute and drew roars from the away end when he charged forward just after the hour. He then sprang another attack with a smart turn that led to Kane firing just over.

Speaking to Kane afterwards, he praised his new partner. "It was a great performance. Not his natural position but he has had spells there in pre-season. He is obviously a smart player, really good on the ball, good in tight areas, and you saw that with his finish."

Kane described Brown as "a very versatile player" and pointed out that he had already scored in pre-season. But some adjustments will be required. Brown barely touched the ball prior to his 28th-minute goal, often being missed out of their passing sequences.

Vincent Kompany will have to be patient with Jamal Musiala following his unfortunate health scare, twice collapsing on the pitch. Saibari will be able to help with that. But the creative use of Brown could prove useful when the Bundesliga kicks off next weekend.

LaLiga: Mourinho wins late, Gordon's impact

The big two in Spain both won away as their LaLiga campaigns began, but the victories could hardly have been more different. While Barcelona battered Elche 5-0 - Anthony Gordon getting two assists on debut - Real Madrid needed a 90th-minute winner at Espanyol.

The identity of the scorer delighted Jose Mourinho, beginning his second spell in charge at Madrid. Carlos Espi latched onto a loose ball inside the Espanyol area to win the game 2-1 and was rewarded with a big hug from Mourinho - his 'neighbour' in Madrid.

Player and coach are both living at the club's training ground, having breakfast together every day. Those morning meetings just got a little easier for the 6'4" striker signed from Levante. He is not the highest profile player at Madrid but he could be a key weapon.

Thibaut Courtois has already described Espi as "Joselu Junior" - a reference to the former striker who scored so many crucial goals for the club, including two famous ones late on against Bayern Munich on the way to winning the Champions League for Madrid in 2024.

Espi, 21, brings something different and could be a potential game-changer under Mourinho who has always been fond of a robust centre-forward. The contrast with Barcelona could hardly be more stark where it is the mobile Raphinha is playing the role for now.

The Brazilian scored twice against Elche as Hansi Flick's embarrassment of riches in the wide areas was made clear. Lamine Yamal was quiet but that was no problem as Karim Adeyemi got a goal on his debut and Gordon came off the bench to set up a couple.

Having been at St Andrew's to see Hamza Abdelkarim impress against Birmingham in pre-season, do not rule out him playing the Espi role for Barca. Maybe they don't need Julian Alvarez anyway. He was booed by Atletico Madrid fans in their 2-2 draw with Villarreal.

Serie A: Amorim starts with win, Inter impress

Ruben Amorim made a winning start to life at AC Milan as they beat Torino 2-1 away from home as Serie A got under way in Italy. Scotland striker Che Adams scored an imaginative volley but it was not enough to deny Amorim's encouragingly organised side.

Juventus and Napoli also got good away wins, Kevin De Bruyne scoring late on for the latter. Maurizio Sarri made a positive start at Atalanta with a win over Sassuolo as well. However, it will be difficult for any of these clubs to dethrone champions Inter.

The double winners made a particularly strong start to their title defence with a 4-1 win over Monza. Hakan Calhanoglu's eye-catching opener was spectacular. Pio Esposito's backheeled finish for the third was even better. Both goals were set up by Andy Diouf.

Inter have spent much of the summer searching for a new right wing-back having lost Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid. It is a position that is so important to the team under Cristian Chivu and England's Djed Spence is expected to take on the role in the long term.

But Diouf, a midfielder playing out of position there, was magnificent. It underlines the depth that Chivu has at his disposal, further emphasised by John Stones coming off the bench for Manuel Akanji as Spence and Curtis Jones looked on from the stands.

Serie A results: Inter 4-1 Monza, Udinese 1-1 Como, Genoa 0-2 Napoli, Parma 0-1 Cagliari, Frosinone 0-1 Juventus, Venezia 0-2 Lecce, Atalanta 2-1 Sassuolo, Torino 1-2 AC Milan.

Ligue 1: Slow start for PSG, drama at Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain's uncertain start to the season continued as they dropped points at Rennes, needing two goals from World Cup hero Ferran Torres to salvage a 2-2 draw in a game moved from Paris because of the poor condition of the Parc des Princes pitch.

Having been in Salzburg to see PSG scrape past a weakened Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup, and then follow that up with defeat to Lens in the Trophee des Champions - despite Lens being down to 10 men for the whole second half - this was not a big shock.

It will be interesting to see how Luis Enrique manages the players' minutes again this season. Will he do anything as drastic as Paulo Fonseca did for Lyon's game against Toulouse, though? The Portuguese coach changed all 11 of his line-up - and won 2-0.

It was a strategic decision by Fonseca with Lyon in the middle of a two-legged Champions League play-off with Fenerbahce that will have a huge impact on the club's finances. Beat the Turkish side in midweek and it could prove to be a masterstroke.

But the standout performance in France came from Marseille as they won 4-0 against Strasbourg. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been stripped of the captaincy but responded by scoring the final goal, the celebrations reflecting his popularity within the squad.

Hojbjerg turned down a transfer, much to the frustration of Marseille's ownership who are desperate to get his wages off the books with no Champions League football. "It is not a decision I agree with," said head coach Bruno Genesio of the captaincy call.

It was interesting that Genesio went public with that. He is in an awkward spot but distancing himself from his bosses looks like the smart play - for now - given this show of unity by the players. Unfortunately, Marseille could lose a number of them very soon.

Elsewhere… Salah scores two for Trabzonspor

AZ Alkmaar are already the only team left in the Eredivisie with a perfect record, while newly promoted Maritimo briefly went top of the table in Portugal - check out this interview with their president on why being back matters so much to the island of Madeira here.

But the biggest story outside the biggest leagues came 5000 kilometres away across the other side of the continent as Mohamed Salah scored twice on his home league debut for Trabzonspor in a 2-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir. There were glimpses of vintage Salah.

The first goal was scrappy but the second was sensational. Salah had said on arrival that he had never seen anything like his reception in Turkey before but what he did on the pitch was incredibly familiar. A clever give and go. The ball slotted low into the far corner.

He had two more goals disallowed for offside and was booked for a dive so it was certainly eventful. If Salah can produce more performances like this then the excitement surrounding a player some are calling the biggest star ever to go to Turkey will only grow.
