West Mercia Police is investigating following a report of an aggravated burglary in Weobley last Saturday.
At around 1am, two unknown men forced entry into the property in the Bunderberg area of The Marsh, Weobley. Once inside they have physically assault a couple with a metal bar and demanded cash.
The offenders have fled the scene empty handed when the victims told them they were pensioners with no money to steal.
Prior to the incident, it is reported that the victims had started to hear noises near their home late in the evening.
The victims, a man and woman in their 80s received head and hand injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The offenders are described as two men, slim build and were wearing dark clothing with their faces covered. The victims believe the offenders had foreign accents.
Detective Constable Peter Bradbury, from Hereford CID, said: "This is an unprovoked and wholly unnecessary attack on vulnerable victims.
"I would like to reassure the community of Weobley that incidents of this nature are rare and we have increased uniform patrols in the area to offer reassurance.
"Were you in the area between 11am and 1am and heard or saw any suspicious activity during or prior the incident, if so, then please contact us on 101 quoting incident 53s of 12 August 2017"
