Warning after counterfeit £50 notes used in Ledbury

Police are warning shop owners in Ledbury to be on the lookout after attempts were made to use fake £50 notes.

On Wednesday 4th April 2018 a number of shops in Ledbury were visited by two males who tried to use £50 notes to make purchases. Safer neighbourhood team officers seized one that was fake and fortunately many stores in town refused to accept the other notes.

The description of one of the offenders is - White male 5'6" tall, 35-50 years old, skinny build, wearing a baseball cap, blue jeans and a grey hoody with NIKE logo.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police told Sunshine Radio: "This is a rare crime but periodically those using the notes will target a particular town before moving on."

"We would urge all retailers to be particularly careful when £50 notes are offered, as these are still not printed on polymer. On this occasion the notes were purporting to be from the Royal Bank of Scotland and didn't feel like a real note to the officers attending."
