Vehicle weight restriction consultation

Herefordshire Council is asking for residents’ views on proposals to introduce a 7.5 tonne weight restriction across ten roads in Bromyard.

The council, in partnership with Balfour Beatty Living Places, is seeking views on the potential introduction of the weight restriction on New Road, Pump Street, Frog Street, Broad Street, High Street, Cruxwell Street, Rowberry Street, Old Road, Clover Road and Winslow Road.

The weight restriction traffic order would retain access for vehicles needing to visit properties or land next to the specified streets, but would stop other vehicles over 7.5 tonnes from using the roads as a cut through.

Lorries over the weight limit, which do not need access to the local area, would be directed along the B4203 Sherford Street and Station Road, away from residential and town centre streets.

This is aimed at significantly easing heavy goods vehicle traffic levels in key routes across the town.

Transport cabinet member Barry Durkin said: “Herefordshire Council is committed to reducing congestion through strategic major road developments, road improvement programmes and the promotion of active travel such as cycling and walking.

“We want to hear from everyone who has an interest in Bromyard Town Centre and will carefully consider all suggestions and views.”
