A prominent new Hereford restaurant has applied for permission for three new illuminated signs, which are already up.
La’De Kitchen opened last month in the former Pizza Express building in Broad Street, previously the city’s post office, within its main conservation area.
Next to the St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic parish church, and a short walk from the cathedral, the Victorian building is grade II-listed, meaning the restaurant has to obtain listed building consent as well as advertisement consent to put up lit external signs.
The three signs are a main, 7m “fascia” above the main front windows, attached to a metal bracket installed by the previous occupant; a 70cm-diameter circular sign above the door; and a similar 60cm round hanging sign projecting outwards, also on an existing fixing.
The signs “require limited external attachment” to the front of the building, and “would not be harmful to this listed building or conservation area”, the application says.
La’De Kitchen is a family-owned chain of seven contemporary Mediterranean restaurants, focussing on Turkish cuisine in particular.
Comments can be made on the applications (advertising consent: 221709; listed building consent: 221710) until July 7.
