Plans for up to 1,300 homes in Hereford

Developers have submitted plans to build up to 1,300 homes, a new primary school and business units south of Hereford.

The Bloor Homes scheme for the southern urban expansion at Lower Bullingham includes a mix of housing including affordable and specialist homes as well as a new community hub, country park and a park and choose site.

The main vehicle access to the 185-acre site would be from the Rotherwas relief road while a bus only route would serve the site from Lower Bullingham lane.

New walking and cycle routes would link with the Rotherwas industrial estate to the east, to the proposed country park and choose and park to the west and with developments to the north.

Architects working on the scheme say the development will create a ‘high quality edge’ to Hereford.

They also say the plans will create a self reliant place with new job opportunities, a new school and shops.

“The development at Lower Bullingham provides an opportunity to create a sustainable development that is well related to neighbouring communities,” the plans say.

However, local residents have raised concerns over increased traffic, flooding risks and the number of properties proposed for the site.

Residents have until March 7 to comment on the scheme by visiting Herefordshire Council’s online planning portal.

A decision is not expected until May 20.
