Part of former Herefordshire country pub could be turned into flats

Parts of a historic former country pub and hotel in Herefordshire could be converted into flats.

A Ms Goodwin of Mortimers Cross Inn on the A4110 northwest of Leominster has applied for planning permission to make internal and external alterations to the building, part of which dates from the 13th century, although it is not listed.

Plans with the application (numbered 233718), which show an area of first-floor decking being enclosed to form two new bedrooms.

The application describes the work as part-retrospective, having begun in May 2021, and also seeks approval for a change of use of the pub to a café and shop.

Since May 2021 it has been trading as The Grange at Mortimers Cross, comprising a café and crafts and antiques shop, alongside the bar and a bed-and-breakfast offer.

Around this time the pub was also put up for sale with an asking price of £595,000. It remains on the market, and is described as having seven en suite letting bedrooms along with a two-bedroom owners’ suite.
