The end of prolonged disruption to a Herefordshire town centre is finally in sight.
Extensive renovation of Leominster’s Corn Square and neighbouring streets has been jointly funded by Herefordshire Council and a government grant.
But traders have complained that the work, originally intended to have been complete by autumn but which has dragged on into the new year, has hit visits to the town’s shops and markets.
“Following the festive break, contractors are now finalising work in a few areas to support the enhancements to Leominster town centre and improve safety,” a council spokesperson has now said.
“This includes the installation of new metered power outlets for markets and events, and the installation of seats and planters,” – work they said “will be complete early next month, weather permitting”.
“We have asked the contractors to minimise disruption to the public and local businesses, and this work should not require the closure of any of the recently reopened roads,” the council’s spokesperson added.
Parking in Corn Square, which is free for up to an hour, is expected to be available from today.
Compensatory free parking in the nearby Etnam Street car park ended in early January.
