Museum admission charges rise

Herefordshire Council has increased the admission charges for visitors to the Black and White House Museum in Hereford.

Charges to enter the grade I listed Old House in High Town were introduced two years ago.

The cost for adults and children have gone up by 50p to £3 and £2 respectively.

The family ticket will now cost £9.50 while an annual adult annual pass is now £10. Both up from £7.50.

The income for the museum was £15,982 for 2017/18, £26,00 for 2018/19 and £25,178 so far during the current financial year.

“Charges have not been increased since they were introduced,” the decision notice reads.

“Although income is increasing, it is still falling short of the income target set for the Black & White House. In addition, comparisons with similar museums in other parts of the UK have indicated that the Black and White House Museum charges are lower than their comparitors.”

Built in 1621, the house has been used for many purposes over the years, starting out as a butcher’s.
