The first phase of work to repair the rockfall on the A40 between Monmouth and Wilton will get underway this evening.
National Highways say the work will focus on installing safety barriers, temporary CCTV cameras and crossover locations, and will allow us to put in place a contraflow system in November.
Tonight the A40 eastbound will be closed overnight between Dixton roundabout and Whitchurch.
Heavy rainfall caused rocks to crash onto the carriageway last year.
